Dr. Maher joined Illinois Eye Surgeons in July 2004 and is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He practices in general ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract surgery and refractive surgery. Dr. Maher graduated with honors from Duke University in 1993, studying economics as well as the premedical sciences. After graduation, he attended the University of Missouri School of Medicine, receiving his medical degree in 1998. Dr. Maher completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, and then completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Mason Eye Institute at the University of Missouri—Columbia. Dr. Maher is a certified ReStor (multifocal) and Toric (astigmatism-correcting) implant specialist. He also performs glaucoma laser and filtering surgery in addition to cataract and refractive surgery, utilizing the most up-to-date technology and surgical techniques. He performs surgery in Swansea, Centralia, and Mount Vernon.
